ABOUT US
Our Philosophy
Our mission is to help every child grow in confidence and independence while establishing deep roots that prepare them not only for pre-K but for a lifetime of success.

We believe the best way to achieve this is through a combination of love, support, and continuous play-based learning opportunities. Using the research-based Experience Curriculum through Brightwheel, we incorporate structured activities tailored to each age group, fostering development and growth.
Our space is thoughtfully designed to encourage independence and, above all, fun! In addition to the essentials, we offer specialized areas for reading, blocks and puzzles, puppets, dramatic play, music, and even a play kitchen to spark imagination and creativity.
ABOUT ME
Sherry Davenport
Children have always been my passion and the center of my life. From raising and homeschooling my two daughters to being an involved grandma, teaching Sunday school, fostering children, managing a children’s clothing ministry, and volunteering with local Parenting Communities, I’ve dedicated myself to nurturing young lives.

After selling our family business of 30 years, I was ready for a new adventure. Opening a daycare felt like the perfect fit—it quickly became clear that this was my true calling. I’m honored to help the children of Leelanau County build strong roots that will serve as a foundation for their future.

With support from the Infant Toddler Childcare Startup (ITCS) program, designed to address the area’s need for quality childcare, we are thrilled to open Rooted Daycare and bring our vision to life.

OUR INSIRATION
A Child's Dirty Hands

Someone once said to me,
"You're just a mom",
That's not for me.

I want the finer things
Life holds.
A bank account
That's filled with gold.

No child will ever keep me
From,
"Trips to foreign lands"

I want the finer things in life
"Not a child's dirty hands"

As the years passed on by,
This woman, she grew old.

What she considered
"The finer things in life"
Left tears upon her soul.

For suddenly, she realized,
When old and all alone.

That all the bank accounts
Of gold,
And trips to foreign lands,

Could not compare to a child's
Love,
"Nor a pair of dirty hands."

Written by Sherry's talented mother, Linda, who taught her the love for children's dirty hands.
